• Question limits: Microsoft states that a survey can have a 100-question limit, but that’s not entirely accurate. For Likert-scale questions and Ranking questions, each entry/line in the question counts as a question. So, for example, if you are asking for people to rate their satisfaction on 5 options, that’s 5 questions. If you are asking people to rank 8 options, that’s 8 questions.

  • Open-ended questions: Each open-ended question has a 4,000-character limit. This character limit included letters, punctuation, and spaces, and is approximately 650 words. The total character limit in a survey is 16,000 characters and includes both open-ended questions as well as the “other” option in choice questions. Once survey respondents hit the 16,000-character limit, MS Forms will not allow them to answer any more questions. This could be problematic for a survey with many open-ended questions.
